A prominent actress of the Bengali film fraternity, Satabdi Roy, made her acting debut in the late 1980s before she ventured into politics with an All India Trinamool Congress ticket from Birbhum in West Bengal in 2009. She won in the 15th Lok Sabha elections that were held in 2009 and was elected a member, Standing Committee on Railways. After she served her first tenure, she was re-elected in the 16th Lok Sabha elections to serve a second term in 2014 as a Member, Committee on Empowerment of Women, Standing Committee on Social Justice & Empowerment. Prior to wading into the political pool, she was considered quite the bankable actress of the Bengali film industry in the late '80s and 90's having acted opposite Tapas Paul MP of Krishnanagar in West Bengal-- in two movies which became major box office hits. Satabdi Roy is known not just to dabble in acting but she is also a director and a poet.
