Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay

Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay was born on 1 September 1956 in Kolkata, West Bengal, to Haripada Chattopadhyay. He completed his formal education in Kolkata and entered public life through student and youth political activities, gradually establishing himself within organisational politics.

He began his political career with the Indian National Congress and later joined the All India Trinamool Congress after its formation, becoming one of the party’s early organisers. His organisational work and loyalty to the party leadership helped him secure a strong footing in state politics.

Chattopadhyay entered the West Bengal Legislative Assembly after being elected MLA from Khardaha in 2011, a seat he successfully retained in 2016 and 2021. Over successive terms, he emerged as a trusted legislator, frequently involved in coordinating legislative business within the Assembly.

In the Government of West Bengal, he has served as Minister for Agriculture and later as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, playing a key role in managing legislative proceedings and policy discussions.

As of 2026, he continues to serve as an MLA from Khardaha and a Cabinet Minister, combining legislative coordination with constituency-level development work in the North 24 Parganas district.
