Mahua Moitra was born to Dwipendra Lal Moitra and Manjoo Moitra in Labac, Cachar, Assam, on 12 October 1974.

From 2016 to 2019, she served as a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and was also a Member of the Standing Committee on Health & Family Welfare.

In May 2019, she was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha. During her tenure, she was a Member of the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology from 13 September 2019 to 8 December 2023. She was also a Member of the Joint Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, and the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from 11 February 2020 to 8 December 2023.

She was expelled on 8 December 2023. However, in June 2024, she was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha.

Her hobbies include running, reading, and cooking. She is also involved in athletics and swimming and is a member of the Tollygunj Club and Bengal Club in Kolkata, as well as the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
