Manas Ranjan Bhunia

Manas Ranjan Bhunia was born on 28 February 1952 in Sabang, Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, to the Late Shri Pulin Behari Bhunia and the Late Smt. Satyabati Bhunia. After earning his MBBS degree from N.R.S. Medical College in Kolkata, he practiced medicine before beginning his political career.

He entered electoral politics in 1982 when he won the Sabang Assembly seat, which he served as a representative for multiple terms until his death four decades later, because people continued to support him. He has been a prominent political figure in West Bengal since he served three terms in the state assembly and then spent four years in the Rajya Sabha from 2017 to 2021.

Bhunia has served important ministerial positions in the West Bengal government, which include his roles as Minister for Irrigation and Waterways and Minister for Small and Micro Industries and Textiles, before he became Water Resources Investigation and Development minister after the 2021 assembly elections.

He has worked in the legislature while he served as West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President, and after joining TMC in 2016, he continued his political career as part of the ruling party.

He serves as an MLA and Cabinet Minister for West Bengal till 2026 while he manages water resource operations and infrastructure projects.
