Bankim Chandra Hazra

Bankim Chandra Hazra was born on 7 November 1949 in West Bengal. He has a post-graduate (M.Sc.) academic background and was engaged in public service sectors before transitioning into full-time politics. Over the decades, he cultivated deep connections with his home region and began actively participating in community and political activities.

Hazra entered electoral politics with the All India Trinamool Congress and won his first seat in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in 2011 from the Sagar constituency in South 24 Parganas district. His successive re-elections in 2016 and 2021 demonstrate sustained electoral support in his constituency and local governance engagement.

Following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, Hazra was appointed as Minister of Sundarban Affairs in the TMC-led state government, where his role encompasses development planning, community outreach, and policy coordination for the ecologically sensitive Sundarbans region.

In his legislative and executive capacities, Hazra has engaged with initiatives aimed at balancing environmental conservation with sustainable livelihoods for residents in the Sundarbans.

As of 2026, he continues his work as an MLA and Cabinet Minister, supporting socioeconomic programmes and regional governance reforms.
