Indranil Sen was born on 3 June 1965 in Kolkata, West Bengal, to Prodyut Kumar Sen. He completed his senior secondary education at New Alipore Multipurpose School, Kolkata, and went on to obtain a Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering from the Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology, Chennai, in 1986. Before entering politics, Sen established himself as a singer and cultural personality, working in modern Bengali music as well as Rabindra Sangeet and folk genres.
Sen began his political career with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), joining the party in 2012. He was elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Chandannagar constituency in the 2016 elections, defeating the incumbent and marking his entry into formal legislative politics. He was re-elected in 2021, maintaining a strong voter base in the Hooghly district.
In the Government of West Bengal, Sen has served in various ministerial capacities. He was a Minister of State for Information & Cultural Affairs and Technical Education, Training & Skill Development, and in September 2023, he was appointed Minister of State for Tourism in a cabinet reshuffle. He also served as Chairperson of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC). Throughout his tenure, Sen has been involved in promoting tourism, cultural affairs, and skill development policies in the state.
Beyond politics, Sen continues to be active in cultural and artistic pursuits, bringing attention to Bengali music and heritage. As of 2026, he remains a serving MLA and Cabinet Minister in the West Bengal government, balancing political leadership with advocacy for cultural growth and constituency development.
