Humayun Kabir came into this world on 3 April 1961 in Debra village, West Bengal. He received his doctoral degree in Botany from Kalyani University in 1991. Afterward, he joined the West Bengal Police Service and subsequently the Indian Police Service (IPS). He held various positions like Superintendent of Police and Commissioner before he decided to retire on his own accord.
In February 2021, he became a TMC member and won the state assembly election from Debra with a good margin, thus becoming an MLA. Shortly after, he was appointed as Minister of State (with independent charge) for Technical Education, Training, and Skill Development in West Bengal, and he held that office from May 2021 to August 2022.
In 2025, after constantly having altercations with TMC district leaders and receiving disciplinary warnings from the party, he made it known to the public that he was going to quit the party and start a new political journey by the end of December, which he described as “a party for the common man.”
