Mausam Noor Biography

Mausam Benazir Noor was a baby born on 15th October, 1979, in the metropolis of Kolkata, West Bengal, to a family actively engaged in politics, with a lineage deeply rooted in the public life of the region. Her mother, Rubi Noor, was a legislator for a long time, and her uncle was a senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, with A. B. A. Ghani Khan Choudhury being the name. Mausam was a native of La Martiniere Calcutta school and earned a law degree (LL.B.) from Calcutta University after that.

She took part in politics and was elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Sujapur in early 2009 after her mother’s death in 2008. She contested in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, and as a Congress candidate at just 29 years old, she was able to win the newly formed Maldaha Uttar constituency and thus became one of the youngest Members of Parliament. In 2014, she was re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha for five years until 2019.

In January 2019, she broke from the Indian National Congress and joined the All India Trinamool Congress after her proposal for a Congress-TMC alliance was rejected. She ran the 2019 Lok Sabha election on a TMC ticket but lost. Soon after, in April 2020, she was nominated and elected to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal, where she performed as a party MP and picked up roles, including Vice Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Women since 2019.

In January 2026, Mausam Noor left the Trinamool Congress party and re-entered the Indian National Congress, thus indicating a revival of her political roots and perhaps the plan for elections to be held in her home province. This happened just before the West Bengal Assembly polls.
