Nalapad Ahmed Haris was born on 11 January 1967 and has Bhadravati, Karnataka, as his birthplace. His childhood was in Bengaluru, where his father, N. A. Mohammed, had set up his business in different areas, one being the hospitality industry through the Nalapad Group of Hotels, among others. Haris was a part of the family's business operations in the late 1990s, and he not only helped to increase the reach of the business but also diversified it into the educational sector and other areas such as pipes, security services, information technology, and energy.
Haris first dabbled in politics through the Indian National Congress party, where he did some grassroots organizing in the early 2000s. He not only made contact with senior leaders but also, through their support, he advanced in the party. At the age of 41, he was first elected MLA from Shanti Nagar in May 2008, thereby becoming a highly visible representative of central Bengaluru, busy with the works on infrastructure, welfare, and cultural local issues. He has won a series of elections after that, among them the Karnataka State Assembly election in 2023.
He created for himself a critical role through legislative participation: as per a report, he led the Karnataka MLAs’ list in 2018-23 as far as legislative questions are concerned and also recorded a good attendance, which indicates his participation in debates and addressing the concerns of the constituency.
Besides the legislature, he has been a leader of big urban and sports organizations. In January 2024, Haris will be the Chairman of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), where he will be responsible for the planning and housing projects of the city. He was also the former Chairman of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. In sports organization, he was vice president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in 2022, and he was also active in the Karnataka State Football Association in various roles.
In 2025, Haris, N. A., is continuing as the Shanti Nagar MLA and is a keen and active participant in Karnataka politics, urban development, and sports administration
