B. K. Ravi (Braj Kishore Ravi)

B.K.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Ravi, ex-Director General of Police (DGP) in Tamil Nadu, is a native of Saharsa district, Bihar. He has completed a remarkable career of 33 years in the Indian Police Service and has voluntarily retired in 2023. With an Indian National Congress kind of ideological influence, he came into the party in November 2023 and stated that he wanted to serve Bihar, his home state.

He contested the Bihar Assembly Election in November 2025 from the Rosera (SC) constituency as the Congress candidate but did not win.

B. K. Ravi (Braj Kishore Ravi) Biography

B.K.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Ravi grew up in Saharsa, Bihar, with rich family traditions of public service. His mom, Tul Mohan Ram, was a Member of Parliament and also a freedom fighter. Energized by the values of honesty and helping the community around him, Ravi decided to make the world a safer place, and he got into the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1989.

He has been in the Indian Police Service for 33 years. He exercised multiple responsibilities and was finally appointed Director General of Police in Tamil Nadu. He was in charge of the Vigilance Department, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), and Fire and Rescue Services. When he was about to retire, he was the second senior-most DGP in the Tamil Nadu cadre.

Ravi decided to take voluntary retirement in 2023. He mentioned his wish to be of service to the people of Bihar as the main reason for his departure. After that, he joined the Indian National Congress after meeting with the party, and his joining was motivated by its ideology and his vision for Bihar’s development.

In November 2025, Braj Kishore Ravi (INC) ran for the Rosera (SC) seat, but was defeated.
