K. R. Ramesh Kumar

K. R. Ramesh Kumar was born on 8 May 1953 in Chitradurga district, Karnataka. He completed his early education in that region and later obtained a law degree. After this, Ramesh Kumar worked as an advocate for some time and then entered the political arena through the elections. At first, Ramesh Kumar became known among the public through his involvement in legal practice, not only by practicing law but also through community service in his home district. His hard work in organizing and leading people on public issues was the groundwork for his eventual entry into politics, where he started with the Janata Dal and its various formations, which later on different occasions got him to the Janata Dal (Secular) and Indian National Congress.

In the very first elections, Ramesh Kumar became a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Challakere constituency in 1985, thereby starting a long legislative career with several terms as an MLA. Over time, he has become a person who is good with legislative processes, debates, and parliamentary practices, and within the Assembly, he is known for his deep understanding.

Ramesh Kumar's legislative prominence finally led to his election to the post of Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 2013, which he continued to hold until 2018. The Speaker took part in the Assembly and helped a lot in keeping the standards and practices of the Parliament in the state legislative.

Ramesh Kumar was re-elected in consecutive elections and thus continued to be the people's representative in his constituency, plus he was very actively involved in state politics, so he was doing the constituency work together with his legislative duties.

The year 2025 marks K. R. Ramesh Kumar as a legislator and parliamentary leader with the most experience in Karnataka, whose public and legislative engagement has been sustained for decades.
