Yathindra Siddaramaiah was born on 27 June 1980 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, to senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Parvathi Siddaramaiah. Professionally trained as a doctor, he completed his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College and later obtained an MD in Pathology. Before entering active politics, he practiced medicine and was associated with healthcare services in Karnataka.
Although he came from a prominent political family, Yathindra initially maintained a low political profile. His entry into electoral politics came when he was chosen by the Congress to contest from the Varuna constituency, a seat previously represented by his father. His candidature marked the beginning of his transition from medicine to public life.
In the 2018 Karnataka Assembly election, Yathindra won from Varuna and entered the Legislative Assembly for the first time. During his tenure as MLA, he focused on constituency development, healthcare, and public welfare initiatives while gradually building his own political identity within the Congress party.
Ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, he vacated the Varuna seat to allow Siddaramaiah to return to the constituency. In 2024, he was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council by Members of the Legislative Assembly, ensuring his continued presence in state politics.
Following the leadership transition in Karnataka, Yathindra was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the D. K. Shivakumar government on 3 June 2026. His induction marked his first ministerial assignment and represented a significant milestone in his political career.
Following the allocation of portfolios, he was entrusted with the Urban Development Department, marking his first ministerial assignment in the Karnataka government.
