Rajani Ashokrao Patil Biography

Rajani Ashokrao Patil was born to Atmaram Bapu Patil and Shantabai Patil in Pune on 5th December 1958. She belongs to the family of freedom fighters, her grandfather late Shri Hutatma Vishnu Ganesh Pingle was a freedom fighter and founder Member of ‘The Gadar Movement.’ He was hanged by the British Government in Lahore in 1917.

Her father was also a freedom fighter and a member of the Central Legislative Assembly in 1937 and was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Her mother was a freedom fighter too. She married Ashok Patil in 1982 and was blessed with three children.

She was elected to the Rajya Sabha to represent the Indian National Congress from Maharashtra in 2021. This is her second term to serve in the upper house of the Indian parliament.

Currently, she serves as a Member of the Joint Committee on the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022. Additionally, she is a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence. Furthermore, she is a Member of the Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture. Lastly, She is a part of the Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.

She has been a Secretary of an educational institute which runs schools, and colleges, especially for girls in the backward region.

Her interest lies in theatre, music and classical music. She enjoys watching musical concerts, drama (Marathi theatre) and travelling in her free time.
