Madan Sahani was born on 17 May 1971, in Khrajpur, a village located in the Bahadurpur block of Darbhanga district, Bihar. His father was the late Vindeshwar Sahni, who was known for his community involvement. Madan Sahani completed his graduation from Kunwar Singh College, under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (L.N.M.U.), Darbhanga, in 1992. His political career began at the grassroots level, where he served as a member of the Panchayat, was elected to the Zila Parishad, and subsequently became the District Board Chairman in Darbhanga.

He first entered the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2010, representing the Bahadurpur constituency. In the 2015 assembly elections, he successfully contested from the Gaura Bauram constituency and was later inducted as a Cabinet Minister, serving as the Minister of Food & Civil Supply from 2015 to 2017. In the 2020 elections, he returned to his home constituency of Bahadurpur and was re-elected as an MLA. From February 2021 to January 2024, he held the portfolio of Minister of Social Welfare in the Government of Bihar.
