Madan Sahani was born on 17 May 1971, in Khrajpur, a village located in the Bahadurpur block of Darbhanga district, Bihar. His father was the late Vindeshwar Sahni, who was known for his community involvement. Madan Sahani completed his graduation from Kunwar Singh College, under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (L.N.M.U.), Darbhanga, in 1992. His political career began at the grassroots level, where he served as a member of the Panchayat, was elected to the Zila Parishad, and subsequently became the District Board Chairman in Darbhanga.
He first entered the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2010, representing the Bahadurpur constituency. In the 2015 assembly elections, he successfully contested from the Gaura Bauram constituency and was later inducted as a Cabinet Minister, serving as the Minister of Food & Civil Supply from 2015 to 2017. In the 2020 elections, he returned to his home constituency of Bahadurpur and was re-elected as an MLA. From February 2021 to January 2024, he held the portfolio of Minister of Social Welfare in the Government of Bihar. He is recognized for his dedication to social work, including initiatives for youth development, women empowerment, and farmer welfare. In 2021, he notably threatened to resign due to alleged bureaucratic high-handedness but reaffirmed his loyalty to his party, JD(U).
In November 2025, Madan Sahni won the Bahadurpur assembly seat, polling 96,300 votes and finishing ahead of RJD’s Bhola Yadav by 12,011 votes, extending his strong legislative career in Darbhanga district.
Following the 2025 Assembly results, he took the oath as a cabinet minister in the new Bihar government.
