Born on 1 January 1985, Jayant Raj Kushwaha hails from Bihar. He comes from a family with a strong political background, being the son of former Member of Legislative Assembly, Janardan Manjhi, who represented the Amarpur constituency earlier. Jayant Raj pursued his education with dedication, completing his schooling at C N D High School, Baunsi Banka. He then earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Marwari College, Bhagalpur, affiliated with Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, in 2010. Furthering his academic pursuits, he completed a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Rural Economics from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in 2012.
Jayant Raj made a significant entry into active politics by contesting and winning the Amarpur constituency in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. He defeated Jitendra Singh of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 3,114 votes, securing 33.13% of the total votes polled. This victory made him the youngest MLA from the Banka district at the age of 35. His rapid ascent in the political landscape saw him being appointed as the Minister of Rural Work in February 2021, a rare achievement for a first-time MLA. Following governmental reconfigurations, he was reappointed as the Minister for Minor Water Resources in August 2022. Demonstrating continued trust from the state leadership, he assumed the role of Minister of Building Construction in March 2024, marking his third ministerial term.
Beyond his political responsibilities, Jayant Raj Kushwaha is actively involved in social work and manages agricultural, dairy, and fish farming ventures. His wife, Kumari Shilpi Surbhi, also contributes to their earnings through a private job and agriculture.
In November 2025, Jayant Raj won the Amarpur seat with 103,944 votes, finishing ahead of Congress candidate Jitendra Singh by 33,221 votes, reinforcing his influence in Banka district.
