Harivansh Narayan Singh was born on 30 June 1956 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He completed his Senior Secondary in JP Inter College, Uttar Pradesh and Higher education from Banaras Hindu University. He started his career in 1977 in Times of India as a trainee journalist. He got married to Asha Singh on 23 April 1978. They have two kids.
