Bashistha Narain Singh Biography

Bashistha Narain Singh, born on October 24, 1947, to Kamta Singh and Lakhmuni Devi in Village Kopwan, Distt. Buxar (Bihar), embarked on a journey. His early years saw him excel as a football player during his high school days. However, his true calling emerged during the tumultuous times of the J.P. movement, where he found himself imprisoned multiple times.

In 1977, Bashistha Narain Singh took a significant step in his political career by administering the oath at Shaheed Smarak, Patna, to the members of the newly constituted Bihar Vidhan Sabha, who were closely associated with the J.P. Movement. This marked the beginning of his journey in formal governance.

In 1998-99, he served as a Member of the 12th Lok Sabha, marking his entry into national politics. However, his journey didn't end there. In April 2002, Bashistha Narain Singh was elected to the Rajya Sabha. His was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2012 and April 2018.

His commitment to addressing rural development, healthcare, energy, and disaster management is evident through his membership in key committees such as Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Health and Family Welfare, Rules, and more.
