Lalan Singh has been the current Leader of Janata Dal (United) in the Lok Sabha since 2019. He is also a Member of the Parliament for the Lok Sabha representing the Munger constituency. Earlier, he also served as the Minister for Water Resources and Planning & Development in the Bihar Government from 2014 to 2019.

Rajiv Ranjan “Lalan” Singh (1955-born) is a senior Bihar politician widely known as a longtime leader of Janata Dal (United). His parliamentary career started as a member of the Rajya Sabha (2000–2004), he was then a member of the Lok Sabha from Begusarai (2004-2009) and Munger (2019, 2024).

He was a minister in the state political circuit, specifically, the Minister of Water Resources in the Bihar government (2014-19) under the administration of Chief Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi and Nitish Kumar. He took over as the national president of JD(U) in July 2021.

In the 2024 general elections, he retained the Munger seat, and he was made a Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and Panchayati Raj in the Narendra Modi government.

Singh is said to have kept himself in close association with Nitish Kumar, was a strong law supporter of his home district, and was well-versed in the navigation of intra-party dynamics, including his announcement of resignation from the post of JD(U) national president in December 2023.
