V. Somanna has held several key positions in the government of Karnataka. He is the former minister of the Housing and Infrastructure Development Department of Karnataka. He was also a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Govindraj Nagara constituency from 2018 to 2023. Recently, during the 2023 Assembly elections, he was defeated by INC candidate Siddaramaiah from the constituency of Varuna.
