Kerala Congress (Anti-merger Group) election symbol was the Chair, allocated by the Election Commission of India. Recognition followed the Kerala Congress dispute on March 25, 2011. The faction contested with the Left Democratic Front in 2011. Candidates used the Chair on ballots and campaign materials under LDF seat-sharing. ECI froze Kerala Congress name claims.

The faction operated between 2010 and 2015 within the LDF. Seat-sharing allocated three constituencies in 2011. Nominees Skariah Thomas and V. Surendran Pillai used the Chair consistently. Their political identity was tied to the ballot mark rather than colours. Official notifications recorded the allocation for that election.

In 2015, the group split into Kerala Congress (Skaria Thomas) and Kerala Congress (Thomas). The original entity became inactive thereafter. The party prioritised agrarian interests, minority representation, and decentralisation of power, especially in central and southern Kerala. Rather than ideological radicalism, its outlook was shaped by negotiation, coalition relevance, and resistance to dominance by larger national or regional factions, making it a functional, interest-based political formation rather than a mass ideological movement.

Kerala Congress (Anti-merger Group) was guided primarily by the principle of organisational independence. The party opposed forced, or strategic mergers within the Kerala Congress fold, arguing that such unifications diluted internal democracy and erased distinct political identities. Preserving factional autonomy was central to its political reasoning.

Another core principle was coalition pragmatism. While resisting a merger within the Kerala Congress, the party did not reject alliances outright. Its decision to align with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) reflected a willingness to cooperate across ideological lines to maintain political relevance and bargaining power within Kerala’s coalition-driven system.

The party emphasised regional representation, particularly for agrarian communities and minority groups in Kerala. The organisational structure of Kerala Congress (Anti-merger Group) was centralised and leadership-driven, reflecting its origin as a breakaway faction rather than a mass-based party. Strategic decisions, alliance choices, and electoral participation were largely shaped by the senior leadership, with limited institutional decentralisation.

Leadership and Decision-Making

At the top level, the party was led by P. C. Thomas, who acted as the principal decision-maker and public face of the organisation. The absence of a broad collective leadership meant that policy positions and negotiations were handled within a small core group. This structure allowed quick political decisions but limited internal debate and long-term organisational consolidation.

Grassroots Presence

At the grassroots level, the party relied on inherited Kerala Congress networks, particularly in parts of central and southern Kerala. However, it lacked a strong cadre system or independent mass organisations. Local units functioned mainly during election periods, which constrained sustained organisational growth and eventually contributed to fragmentation and decline.
