Santosh Kumar Kushwaha was born on February 5, 1976, in Kocheili village, Purnia district, Bihar. After finishing his primary education locally, he briefly moved to Bihar to pursue his higher studies. Public data on his college degrees is quite sparse. Still, it is not unclear that his studies formed the base for his political career in the area. Kushwaha entered the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2010 as a BJP candidate with a win at the Baisi constituency. Then in 2014, he switched to the JD(U) and became MP of Purnia Lok Sabha constituency. He served from 2014 to 2024. During his tenure, he energetically directed his efforts towards the development of the areas where he worked and focused on the up-gradation of infrastructure, education, and conducted various welfare programs for the community. Kushwaha was a Member of Parliament who was always actively present among the masses. He was instrumental in bringing about local development, making the administration more approachable through the implementation of government schemes, and continuously pushing for political measures that foster ever-expanding economic growth, plus the welfare of the community paradigm in Purnia and nearby areas. In March 2023, he was designated National General Secretary of JD(U), which shows his position inside the party to be prominent. The 2024 general elections saw him seek a mandate from the NDA party, but he lost to Pappu Yadav. This defeat is seen as a significant change in Purnia's political scenario.
