K. Rajan was born on May 26, 1973, to Anthikkad Pulikkal Krishnankutty Menon and Ramani. He hails from Anthikkad in Thrissur district, Kerala. He began his political journey during his school years by joining the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) while studying at Anthikkad Government High School. His early exposure to student activism laid the foundation for his later political career within the CPI.
He pursued his undergraduate degree at Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, and later completed his law degree from Thiruvananthapuram Law Academy. After enrolling as an advocate, he began practicing at the Thrissur court. However, he eventually left his legal practice to become a full-time politician, dedicating himself entirely to public and party work.
Throughout his political journey, Rajan has held several organizational positions. He served as Calicut University Union Joint Secretary and was a member of the Youth Welfare Board. Within AISF, he held key roles including All India Vice President, State Secretary, and District Secretary. His continued rise within the CPI structure led to his appointment as AIYF National General Secretary and member of the CPI state executive.
Rajan was elected as MLA from Ollur constituency and is serving his second term representing the seat. Since 2019, he has served as Government Chief Whip. In the second Pinarayi Vijayan ministry formed in 2021, he was appointed Revenue Minister and was entrusted with the additional portfolios of Survey and Land Records, Land Reforms, and Housing.
As of 2026, he continues to serve in these capacities in the Government of Kerala.
