Renuka Sinha was a retired teacher, social worker and leader of All India Trinamool party. She was elected in the 16th Lok Sabha elections in 2014 from the Cooch Behar constituency in West Bengal. However, her tenure was brief, due to her sudden demise in August 2016. Her death left a vacuum in the Cooch Behar constituency, which paved way to a by-election. Partha Pratim ray from AITC won the by-election, by defeating BJP Hem Chandra Barman.
