P. Wilson Biography

P. Wilson was born on June 6, 1966, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to S. Pushpanathan and Thirumathi Amala Pushpanathan.

In 2019, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha, representing Tamil Nadu under the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) banner. Since then, he has been actively involved in various parliamentary committees, including serving as a Member of the Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme. Before this, he served as a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Women and Child Development and as a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence. Additionally, he contributed his expertise as a Member of the Committee on Privileges and as a Member of the Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.

Before his political career, P. Wilson held legal positions. He served as the Additional Solicitor General (South India) for the High Courts of Madras and its Bench at Madurai, Andhra Pradesh (United), Kerala, and Karnataka from 2012. Prior to that, he was designated as a Senior Advocate at the Madras High Court in 2009 and held the position of Additional Advocate General of the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Madras High Court in 2008. His legal career also includes serving as the Assistant Solicitor General of India at the Madras High Court, Special Government Pleader (Writs) for the Government of Tamil Nadu, Special Prosecutor for the Central Bureau of Investigation, and Senior Central Government Standing Counsel at the Madras High Court, among other roles.

Outside his professional endeavours, P. Wilson is passionate about writing and has contributed articles to various journals and newspapers. He also actively participates in community service, notably as the Coordinator of "Neethi Karangal," a pro bono program initiated by the Tamil Nadu Senior Advocates' Forum to provide legal aid to underprivileged litigants. In his leisure time, he enjoys cricket and carrom.

(vi) the constitutional validity to the setting up of Special Cells and Special Courts to try a class of offences related to 'land grabbing'
