Nityanand​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Rai is a politician in India, associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and is a major leader in Bihar. He has been an MP from Ujiarpur and has taken up various significant positions in the Central government, as the Minister of State for Home Affairs, among others.

Rai, who is credited with his strong organisation and considerable sway over the political scenario in Bihar, has played a pivotal role in the BJP’s implementation plan both at the local and at the national ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌level.

Nityanand Rai Biography

He​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ was born in the Vaishali district on 1 January 1966. After starting his political journey from the grassroots level of organisational work, he slowly but surely expanded his influence in the area.

Rai's political journey began in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, where he served three terms from 2000 to May 2014. During this period, he also held the position of Whip in the Bihar Legislature from 2006 to 2010. His move to national politics came in May 2014 when he was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha. He served on the Standing Committee on Agriculture from 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2018. In May 2019, he was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha for a second term and was appointed as the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs on 30 May 2019.

Rai has also been actively involved in various parliamentary committees. From 13 May 2015 to 25 May 2019, he was a member of the Joint Committee on the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He was also a member of the Standing Committee on Commerce from 1 September 2018 to 25 May 2019. In June 2024, he was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha.

Beyond his legislative duties, Rai has shown a strong commitment to social causes. He provides free medical treatment and services to children affected by polio and bears the entire expenditure for the education and upbringing of four orphans living in Vatsalya Gram, Vrindavan each year. He also facilitates the marriage of orphan girls and has adopted three minor girls who were gang rape victims, ensuring their education and future marriage.

In his leisure time, he enjoys music, studying, and playing football. His special interests include horticulture, organic farming, and sketching, reflecting his diverse talents and passions.
