Md. Ghulam Rabbani

Md. Ghulam Rabbani emerged as a political figure in Uttar Dinajpur district and gained prominence during the 2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. Contesting from the Goalpokhar constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate, he secured victory by defeating All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) candidate Safiur Rahaman with a margin reflecting roughly a ten percent vote-share difference, marking his entry into the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Following his first term as MLA, Rabbani later shifted political allegiance from the Indian National Congress to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). He subsequently contested again from Goalpokhar under the AITC banner and was re-elected to serve a second term, consolidating his political base in the constituency and aligning with the ruling party in West Bengal.

During his tenure as MLA, Rabbani focused on constituency-level development initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and issues concerning minority communities in the region. Goalpokhar, being a border-adjacent and socio-economically sensitive area, required attention to road connectivity, welfare delivery, and local administrative matters, areas in which he remained politically active.

As of 2026, Md. Ghulam Rabbani continues to be politically active in Uttar Dinajpur district and remains engaged in public affairs related to Goalpokhar.
