Konda Surekha was born in Warangal into a Padmashali family. She is married to former MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao. Surekha began her political career at the grassroots level as part of the Mandal Parishad. Before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, she served as an MLA representing the Shayampet constituency in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. During her tenure, she held various ministerial positions, including the Minister of Women & Child Welfare, Health, and Primary Education.
In July 2013, Surekha resigned from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), citing mistreatment from party members. She then joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). In 2018, both she and her husband resigned from the TRS and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). Currently, she is an active member of the Telangana Assembly, representing the Warangal East constituency.
