Konda Surekha Biography

Konda Surekha was born on June 19, 1965, in Warangal, Telangana, into a Padmashali family. She is married to Konda Murali (Konda Muralidhar Rao), a former Member of the Legislative Council. She began her political career at the grassroots level through the Mandal Parishad, gaining early experience in local governance and constituency-level organisation.

Before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, she emerged as a prominent leader after being elected as an MLA from the Shayampet constituency in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. During her tenure, she handled significant ministerial portfolios, including Women & Child Welfare, Health, and Primary Education, playing a role in welfare and social sector administration in the state.

In 2009, she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Warangal, marking her transition to national politics. Over time, her political journey reflected multiple shifts aligned with regional developments. She was associated with the YSR Congress Party but resigned in July 2013, citing internal differences, after which she joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi during the peak of the Telangana statehood movement.

In 2018, she and her husband resigned from the TRS and joined the Indian National Congress, marking another significant political realignment. Despite electoral setbacks during this phase, she retained her influence in Warangal district politics through sustained organisational and constituency-level engagement.

In the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, she was elected as MLA from Warangal East, marking a political comeback and reinforcing her standing in the region. Her return to the Vidhana Sabha reflected continued voter support and her enduring relevance in Telangana politics.

As of 2026, she continues to be active in state politics and governance, maintaining her influence in Telangana while actively engaging in legislative responsibilities, constituency development, policymaking processes, and organisational roles within the party.
