T. N. Prathapan Biography

T.N.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Prathapan first saw the light on this earth in Thrissur, Kerala, on February 14, 1969. He made his debut in the public arena via student and youth movements, and through the state Congress party organisational ladder, he rose step by step. The political work he did in the beginning was deeply involved in trade unions, cooperative sector issues, and local self-government affairs.

Before going national, Prathapan was extremely active in the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and had taken up various party organisational roles. Besides that, he had acquired legislative experience at the state level that made him more policy-oriented and development-focused for his constituency.

In 2019, his political journey went to the national level as he became the 17th Lok Sabha member from Thrissur by a narrow triangular contest he beating the CPI candidate. As a Member of Parliament, he was instrumental in drawing attention to the public sector undertakings, railway expansion, labour rights, coastal issues, and Kerala’s financial interests.

He ran again from Thrissur in the 2024 General Election but lost to Suresh Gopi, a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate. As of 2025, Prathapan is still leading the Congress charge in Kerala both in the organisation and the public movements, although he is not holding a seat in the Lok ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Sabha.
