Kanhaiya Kumar, is an Indian politician, an activist and a public speaker. He is well-known for his advocacy of social justice and secular values. Born in Begusarai, Bihar on January 13, 1987, he went to school in Bihar and later earned his doctoral degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He was the President of the JNU Students’ Union in 2016. His leadership of the JNU protests in 2016 brought him recognition all over the country and thus he became the most prominent voice of the youth nationwide.
He was first a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI). Kanhaiya Kumar ran for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Begusarai but lost. He decided to join the Indian National Congress in 2021. Kanhaiya Kumar said that it was important to bring together the progressive and democratic forces. He has been busy with energising the youth, providing political training, and formulating the campaign strategy while at the Congress.
Kanhaiya Kumar is still a prominent figure in national politics with a great influence on the youth of the Congress as of 2025. He regularly participates in the anti-unemployment, pro-education, and pro-equality initiatives.
