Geniben Nagaji Thakor was born on 1 January 1975 and holds a BA degree through distance education from Jain Vishva Bharati Institute, Ladnun. She started her political career by running for office in the 2012 Gujarat Assembly election, which she lost in the Vav constituency.
Thakor became famous when she ran for the 2017 Gujarat Assembly election from Vav as an INC candidate, which resulted in her victory against senior BJP official Shankar Chaudhary. Her election victory established her as a powerful political figure in north Gujarat politics because it built her local political reputation.
She won her second term in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly election, which she won from the Vav constituency.
Thakor won the Banaskantha parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha election by defeating BJP candidate Rekhaben Chaudhari with a vote margin of over 30000 voters. Her win ended a decade‑long absence of Congress representation from Gujarat in the Lok Sabha.
Thakor currently represents Banaskantha in Parliament while maintaining her active involvement in both party activities and parliamentary responsibilities.
