Chakkere Puttamadegowda Yogeshwar, also known as CP Yogeshwar, is a notable actor and politician in the Kannada film industry. He was born on 23 August 1963 in Chakkere village, located in the Chennapatna taluk of Ramanagara. Yogeshwar graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from VV Puram College in Bangalore.



He began his political career by being elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Chennapatna in 1999. Over the years, he served as an independent candidate and represented the Congress, BJP, and the Samajwadi Party (SP). He was elected as an MLA five times and won on the Congress ticket twice.



In addition to his role as an MLA, Yogeshwar has been a member of the Legislative Council and served as the Minister for Tourism and Environment. His political journey took a turn when he was nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) by the BJP in July 2020. However, after learning that he would not receive a party ticket for the upcoming by-poll, he resigned from the BJP on 21 October 2024 and joined the Congress.



Yogeshwar has a strong support base in the Vokkaliga-dominated constituency. He has often opposed the JD(S), particularly against their leader H. D. Kumaraswamy, to whom he lost in the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections. In the recent 2023 polls, Kumaraswamy received 96,592 votes, while Yogeshwar garnered 80,677 votes, with the Congress party receiving only 15,374 votes.



In addition to his political career, Yogeshwar is also known for his acting. He has delivered memorable performances in films such as Uttara Dhruv to Dakshina Dhruvaku, Badri, Sainika, and Kambalahalli. He initially began his career portraying villains, notably in the film Randheera.
