Sajeev Joseph

Sajeev Joseph is an Indian lawyer and politician from Kerala associated with the Indian National Congress. He serves as a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Irikkur constituency, winning the 2021 election.

In addition to his legislative role, he holds organisational responsibilities within the party as General Secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee’s Foreign Affairs Department.

Sajeev Joseph was born on 16 September 1972 into a Christian (Syro-Malabar Catholic) family in Kerala, the son of K. K. Joseph and Chinnamma Joseph. His family moved from Kottayam to Kannur during his childhood, and he completed his early schooling in Kannur district.

He pursued higher education in economics and law, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Nirmalagiri College and an LLB from Government Law College, Kozhikode. Joseph practised law for around 15 years, appearing in district and sessions courts as well as the Supreme Court of India. He also served on the Kannur District Consumer Forum and as a jury member of the District Consumer Court.

Before entering electoral politics, Joseph held leadership roles in cooperative and educational bodies, including as President of Irikkur Block Agricultural Improvement Co-operative Bank and director of local educational trusts. His engagement in community organisations and legal practice built his profile as a public representative.

In May 2021, Joseph was elected as the MLA from the Irikkur constituency, representing the Indian National Congress. Alongside his legislative duties, he serves in organisational roles within the party at the state and national levels.
