Prithviraj Chavan is a seasoned Congress leader with a track record of leading at both the state and national levels. His parliamentary journey began with his election to the Lok Sabha in 1991, after which he joined national politics. He was the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office from 2004 to 2008 and had the charge of personnel, public grievances, and science and technology departments. His role made him the centre of the national administration during the UPA government. In 2008, Chavan went on to get an upper house ticket and was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Next, in 2010, he took a leap from state to Central leadership by becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He held this post till 2014, managing state administration and governance. After the period as the Chief Minister had expired, he went back to electoral politics in Maharashtra. He came out victorious in the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly election from Karad South and hence served the people as an MLA. At the subsequent elections, he has been a candidate for both the Assembly and the Lok Sabha but has not been successful. As of 2025, Prithviraj Chavan is still a Congress senior leader who is often seen participating in policy debates, giving his views to the public, and managing party-related work.
