Raj Babbar Biography

Raj Babbar was born on June 23, 1952, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, to Kushal Kumar Babbar and Shobha Babbar.

With a career stretching over many years, Raj Babbar has left a lasting mark on Indian cinema and has been actively involved in politics.

Starting his acting journey in the late 1970s, Raj Babbar gained recognition with notable roles in movies like 'Insaaf Ka Taraazu' and 'Nikaah,' where his performances were praised by critics for their depth and emotional resonance.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he remained a prominent figure in Bollywood, appearing in films such as 'Aaj Ki Awaaz,' 'Jeetendra,' and 'Dilwale.' His on-screen presence and ability to portray characters authentically earned him respect within the industry.

He entered politics by joining Janata Dal in 1989, which was led by V. P. Singh. He later joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) and was elected as a Member of Parliament consistently three times. He was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 1999. He was re-elected in the 14th Lok Sabha elections for his second term in 2004. He was suspended from the SP in 2006.

Later he joined the Indian National Congress in 2008 and was elected for his fourth term as a Member of Parliament in 2009, by defeating Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav and daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of SP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Ghaziabad and lost to General V. K. Singh.

He has been appointed as the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), where the Congress Party has been on the opposition side for the last couple of decades.

The Congress party has chosen him to run for the Gurugram seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, where he'll compete against the Bharatiya Janata Party's Rao Inderjit Singh.

He's involved with organizations dedicated to preventing AIDS, tackling drug addiction, and supporting people with disabilities and mental challenges.

In his personal life, he's married to Nadira Babbar and has three children with her. His net worth is Rs 29,91,44,010.
