Baburao Chinchansur won the assembly elections thrice represented the constituency of Gurmitkal and twice from the Chittapur constituency. He also served as a Minister of Textiles, Ports & Inland Transport of Karnataka from 2013 to 2016. Chinchansur also served as a member of Karnataka Legislative Council from 2022 to 2023. After losing in 2018 assembly election, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 29 August 2018. Thereafter, he again decided to shift the Indian National Congress party. In the 2023 assembly election, he was defeated by BJP candidate Sharana Gowda Kandakur from the Gurmitkal constituency.
