Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar is Indian politician from the state of Karnataka. He is a member of the Indian National Congress Party. DK Shivakumar is presently the irrigation and medical education minister of Karnataka. He has been a MLA since 1989 and has been as minister several times. He has held portfolios such as energy, urban development, home etc. DK Shivakumar is known for his dynamism and is a powerhouse of the congress party. He is a member of the Legislative Assembly from Kanakapura constituency. Like other politicians, he was also involved in corruption charges including illegal mining case, alleged involvement in Shanthinagar housing society scam.

Shivakumar is among the richest politicians in Karnataka. While filing his nomination for election in 2018, he declared total assets of ₹840 crore, an increase of more than ₹600 crore from the 2013 election.
His parents did not have kids for 3 years. So they went to Shivaldhappa Temple and prayed Lord Shiva for his blessing for a child. After which they had a boy child and named the child after God’s name as “Shivakumar”
He was elected a Secretary of Student Union in his College days.
He remained an active sports person with unbeatable flair for extra curricular activities, represented school in sports and developed team leadership at a very young age.
In 2018 Election, State election he got re-elected from Kanakapura and hold Minister of Irrigation and Medical Education.
From 2013 to 2018 he was re elected as an MLA from Sathanur and then was assigned the role of Ministry of Energy under Sri Siddaramaiah’s government.
He merged a winner from Sathanur again in Assembly elections.
Again in 2002, I was put incharge of Urban Development Ministry and also became the Chairman of Karnataka State Town Planning Board.
He played a major role in convincing S M Krishna to contest for Rajya Sabha seat and extended my full sport and helped him emerge as an unbeatable winner with over 139 seats in Assembly elections.
When the Sri Veerendra Patil was to step down as Chief Minister due to his ill health he played a prominent role in getting Sri S Bangarappa elected as a successor and supported him. He was then selected as Minister berth (Minister of State for Prisons, Home guards) from 1991-1992.
He was elected as a member for Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat and later he withstood a political conspiracy hatched by political rivals within Congress Party and was denied a congress ticket in 1989.
He contested as an Independent candidate from Sathanur assembly constituency and was elected as MLA at an age of 27.
He was choosen as a party candidate in legislative elections by congress in Sathanur constituency against the political giant of Janata Party, Sri H D Deve Gowda and he lost by a small margin.
