Kanubhai Desai was born on 11 June 1956 in Valsad district, Gujarat. He pursued his education locally and became involved in social and cooperative activities before entering formal politics. His early public engagement laid the groundwork for his later entry into electoral politics at the state level.
He entered active electoral politics in 2007, when he contested the Gujarat Legislative Assembly election from the Pardi constituency as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate. He won the election and became a Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for the first time, beginning his legislative career.
During his first two terms between 2007 and 2017, Desai established himself as a regular Assembly participant, focusing on constituency-related issues and legislative responsibilities. He was re-elected in 2012, continuing his representation of Pardi and strengthening his presence within the BJP’s legislative wing in Gujarat.
In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, Kanubhai Desai was elected for a third consecutive term from Pardi. Following this, he was appointed as a Minister of State in the Government of Gujarat, gaining executive experience alongside his legislative role. His ministerial work involved administrative oversight and implementation of government programmes.
He was re-elected once again in the 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections, retaining the Pardi seat. After the formation of the new government, he continued as a state minister, combining administrative duties with constituency representation.
As of 2026, Kanubhai Desai remains an active MLA and minister in the Gujarat government, engaged in legislative and executive responsibilities.
