Ashok Singhal

Ashok Singhal was born on September 29, 1970, in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur District, Assam. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) from Gauhati University, and before entering full-time politics, he was engaged in business and social service activities in his constituency. His early involvement in local civic issues built his grassroots political presence.

He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and gradually rose within the party’s district and state organisational structure. During the 2000s and early 2010s, he worked extensively at the booth and mandal levels, strengthening the BJP’s base in Upper Assam and the Bodoland-adjacent regions, where the party was expanding its influence.

Singhal was first elected as MLA from Dhekiajuli in the 2016 Assam Assembly election, marking the BJP’s consolidation in the region. He was re-elected in 2021, reinforcing his political standing in the constituency.

After the 2021 Assembly election, he was inducted into the cabinet of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He was assigned the Health & Family Welfare portfolio during a crucial post-pandemic period and later handled Housing & Urban Affairs and other departments.

As of 2026, he continues to serve as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Assam, representing Dhekiajuli in the Assam Legislative Assembly, and actively participates in policy decisions related to public health, urban governance, and state development.
