Jual Oram Biography

Jual Oram was born to Teria Dilga Oram and Bhutki Oram in Kendudihi, Lahunipara, District Sundargarh, Odisha. He has had a diverse career as an agriculturist, engineer, trade unionist, political worker, and politician.

Currently, Oram is a member of the 18th Lok Sabha of India, representing the Sundargarh constituency of Odisha as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Additionally, he is a Union Minister of Tribal Affairs in the Modi 3.0 cabinet.

Oram has previously been a member of the 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th, and 17th Lok Sabha. He was selected as a Cabinet Minister by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. He is also one of the founding members of the Legislative Assembly from the BJP in Odisha.

In his political career, Oram has served as the president of the BJP in Odisha for over four years and has been the leader of the opposition party from the BJP in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Before entering politics, Oram worked for six years as an Assistant Foreman in the Power Group Construction Division at BHEL. He is the Founder President of Baba Baneswar College, Chandali and Lahunipara College. Additionally, he is the Founder General Secretary of Bonai Mazdoor Sangh and the General Secretary of Oraon Sanskrutik Samaj, Odisha. He is also a Patron of the Association of All India Diploma Engineers Federation.

Oram has a strong interest in farming and is dedicated to working for the upliftment of tribal and downtrodden sections of society.

On a personal note, Jual Oram married Jhingia Oram in 1987 and they have two daughters. His net worth is Rs 8,63,25,870.

Political Timeline of Jual Oram

  • 2024: He contested and won from the Sundargarh seat on the BJP ticket. He made his place in the 18th Lok Sabha by this victory and was again appointed as a Cabinet Minister to handle Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • 2019: He was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha for the fifth term. Subsequently, he was appointed as a chairperson of the Standing Committee on Defence. Furthermore, he became a member of the General Purposes Committee, Lok Sabha.
