E T Mohammed Basheer Biography

E. T. Mohammed Basheer was elected to Lok Sabha from the Ponnani constituency, Kerala. He is a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, and a member of the parliamentary consultative committee. Also he was the State Party Secretary of the Indian National Congress Party (IUML). He began his political career by becoming an active member of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF). He later actively engaged in Trade Union field and became State Secretary of S.T.U., worked as President of various trade unions affiliated to Swathanthra Thozhilali Union (S.T.U).

  • 1982: He became the Member in Kerala Agricultural University Senate, Kerala State Orphanage Control Board and Industries Relationship Committee, presented thesis on the subject 21st Century Development Options in the NGO international Seminar held at Oslo (Norway).

E T Mohammed Basheer Achievements

He became the Member of Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE); Government of India Committee on Decentralisation of Education Management; Janardhana Reddy Commission on National Educational Policy; and Minority Education Monitoring Committee. Basheer represented Kerala in the World Malayalee Conference, Berlin, Germany. He also introducted Grading System at the Secondary and Higher Secondary level, which acclaimed national prominence. He brought out the concept of self financing educational institution. He is also the Founder of of Kannur University, Sri Sankara University of Sanskrit, Kaladi & National University of Advanced Legal Studies at Kochi. He supported for comprehensive expansion of IT enabled education and the inclusion of IT as a part of curriculum in secondary level. The leader implemented special package for the education and social upliftment of the physically and mentally handicapped children. He organised Global Education Meet at Cochin in 2005 as part of internationalisation of Education. He also worked as President of various trade unions affiliated to STU in industrial firms like : • Mavoor Gwalior Rayons • Malabar Cements, Palakkad, Edarikode Textiles • Kerala Electrical and Allied, Kundara • Malabar Spinning Mills, Kozhikode • Modern Spinning Mills • Kozhikode, Steel Complex, Kozhikode • K.S.D.C. Kuttipuram. He was also the recipient of first prize in Elocution competition in State Youth Festival held in 1964. He won the Silver Elephant Award from the President of India for the noble service rendered to Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement. He was bestowed with Karma Sresta Award for the best Minister. He also received the Sir Sayed Award for the service rendered to the upliftment of backward and minority education. He won Seethi Sahib Award for the best Parliamentarian. He was awarded by Kerala Sasthra Vedi for promoting Science and Technology initiatives among the youth. He also received a Special Award by anti-narcotic Council of India for the effective implementation of anti-narcotic and drug abuse laws in educational institutions.
