A. M. Shahjahan

A. M. Shahjahan is associated with Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, and has been involved in educational administration and community-oriented welfare activities for several years. According to public election disclosures filed during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, he was 57 years old at the time of contesting from the Papanasam constituency. His affidavit records identified him as a graduate and mentioned his involvement in educational administration and social service activities in the region. In 2021, A. M. Shahjahan contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly election from the Papanasam constituency as an Indian Union Muslim League candidate. He lost the election to M. H. Jawahirullah but continued his political and organisational activities in the constituency following the defeat. During the years after the election, he remained active in constituency-level public engagement programmes and IUML organisational activities in the Cauvery delta region.

During the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the Indian Union Muslim League again nominated Shahjahan as its candidate from the Papanasam constituency as part of the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Vijay. Following the announcement, he participated in roadshows, voter interaction programmes, public meetings, and grassroots campaign activities across the constituency. His campaign focused on minority welfare, educational development, local infrastructure concerns, and constituency-level public outreach during the election period.

On 4 May 2026, A. M. Shahjahan won the Papanasam Assembly constituency by securing 69,284 votes and defeated TVK candidate Azarudeen Uduman Ali by a margin of 1,065 votes. His victory established him as one of the Indian Union Muslim League legislators in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and strengthened the party’s representation within the ruling coalition government.

On 22 May 2026, A. M. Shahjahan was inducted into the Tamil Nadu Council of Ministers during the cabinet expansion carried out by Chief Minister Vijay. He was assigned the Minorities Welfare and Wakf Board portfolio, becoming one of the alliance-party representatives in the Tamil Nadu cabinet.
