A businessman and farmer by profession, D.K Suresh of INC, won his first election in 2013 contesting from the Bangalore Rural seat. The by-polls were held when sitting MP H.D Kumaraswamy resigned from his position. Kumaraswamy had won in this constituency in 2009 by thwarting C.P. Yogeeshwara of BJP's bid to the seat. Suresh defeated Kumaraswamy's wife Anitha Kumaraswamy of JDS in the 2013 elections. He once again emerged victorious in the 16th Lok Sabha elections in 2014. He is serving his second term as the MP of this constituency.
