Sowmya Reddy

Sowmya‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Reddy is an Indian politician from Karnataka and a member of the Indian National Congress. She is the MLA of Jayanagar Assembly constituency in Bangalore.

Committed to issues of urban governance, women's welfare, and civic infrastructure, she made it to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 2023, which was her first venture into electoral politics at the state level after she had been in local body administration for several ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌years.

Sowmya Reddy, born on March 18, 1983, into the family of former Karnataka minister Ramalinga and Chamundeshwari Reddy, has had a deep connection with politics from an early age. With her father, Ramalinga Reddy, serving as the former Home Minister and MLA of Jayanagar constituency for four terms, she grew up witnessing the evolution of the community.

Over the span of 15 years, Sowmya has been actively involved in grassroots activism, focusing on crucial issues such as employment, education, women's empowerment, human rights, and environmental protection.

In 2018, Sowmya Reddy emerged victorious in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections from the Jayanagar constituency. Previously, she served as the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress in Karnataka. Despite facing a setback in the 2023 Assembly elections, where she narrowly lost to the BJP candidate C K Ramamurthy, Sowmya remains undeterred in her commitment to public service and she contested from the Bengaluru South seat under the Congress banner, challenging the BJP's candidate Tejasvi Surya.

On a personal note, Sowmya Reddy married Abhisker Raje but the two are not together anymore.

Sowmya Reddy's educational journey began at Mary Immaculate High School, Wilson Garden. Following this, she completed her 10th standard education at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, Banashankari. Continuing her studies, she pursued her Pre-University Course (PUC) at National College, Jayanagar.

Sowmya then obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Chemical Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering, specialising in chemical processes. Before delving into her engineering studies, she participated in the BPAC Civic Leadership Incubator Program (BCLIP).
