Korgi Jayaprakash Hegde was born to Chandrashekhar Hegde and Girija C. Hegde in Karkala, Udupi (Karnataka) on October 16, 1952. He served as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for three terms from 1994 to 2008. During this time, from 1994 to 1999, he was the Minister of State for Ports and Fisheries in the Government of Karnataka. In March 2012, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in a bye-election.
Hegde has a special interest in social service and educating the poor and uneducated. He enjoys listening to music and reading. He is a member of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (K.S.C.A.), Indira Nagar Club, and Pilikula Club, and he is a partner of the KPL team Malnad Gladiators.
On a personal note, Hegde is married to Shobha J. Hegde, and they have two children. His net worth is Rs 15,34,42,637.
