A lawyer by Profession, Manish Tewari practised out of supreme court and elected MP of Ludhiana constituency. He also served as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Information and Broadcasting from 2009-2014. From student life, he was actively involved in politics. He started his political career with NSUI and later became a member of Congress Party's national committee. The first time he was elected to Lok Sabha in 2009 after defeating Gurcharan Singh of AkaliDal. He was Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting in UPA government. Due to illness, he did not contest 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but in 2019 Congress is fielding him from Anandpur Sahib.
