D. K. Aruna was born on May 4, 1960, in Telangana. She comes from a politically active family and is married to D. K. Bharatsimha Reddy, which strengthened her association with regional political networks and public life.
She began her electoral political career with the Indian National Congress and was elected as MLA from Gadwal in 2004, marking her entry into the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. She was re-elected in 2009, consolidating her position as a key Congress leader in the Mahbubnagar region and representing the Gadwal constituency in the Assembly.
Between 2009 and 2014, she served as the Minister for Information and Public Relations in the government led by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in undivided Andhra Pradesh. During this period, she handled administrative responsibilities and played a role in public communication and governance at the state level.
Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, she contested the Telangana Assembly elections in 2014 and 2018 from Gadwal but was unsuccessful, marking a challenging phase in her electoral journey while continuing her political engagement.
