VM Sudheeran Biography

Former KPCC President and Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly, VM Sudheeran is one of the strongest leaders of the Congress in Kerala.He has been elected to the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly four times each.
Known for his strong stance and Gandhian style of working, VM Sudheeran entered politics through KSU activities.He was the State President of KSU (1971-1973), State President of the Youth Congress (1975 to 1977) and General Secretary of the All India Youth Congress in 1977.In the same year, he contested and won as a Member of Parliament. He was elected from Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency.

He then served as KPPC General Secretary for five years (1980-1985). Meanwhile, in 1980, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Manalur Assembly constituency in Thrissur.In the subsequent Assembly elections of 1982, 1987 and 1991, he won from Manalur and entered the Assembly.In 1990, he became the Vice President of the KPCC. VM Sudheeran was also the Minister of Health in the AK Antony cabinet in 1995-96.He later represented Alappuzha constituency in the Lok Sabha in 1996, 1998 and 1999. In the 1999 elections,Sudheeran defeates Murali, famous Malayalam film actor.

Subsequently, he contested from Alappuzha in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, but lost to Dr. KS Manoj an independent candidate of the CPM.

VM Sudheeran also served as KPCC president from 2014 to 2017.
