Sugata Bose was born in Calcutta, and studied at the Presidency College. He completed his PhD at the Cambridge University before being named a Research Fellow at St Catherine's College in the same university. After a career in academics, Sugata Bose joined the Trinamool Congress, and contested and won in the 16th Lok Sabha elections from Jadavpur.
