Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan served as the first Vice President and second President of India.
Radhakrishnan spent his journey as a writer, mostly focused on Hinduism, Vedanta, and the religion of the Spirit. He had worked in both Indian and Western philosophical contexts and drew attention on both sources in his prose. Therefore, Radhakrishnan has been hailed as a symbol of Hinduism to the West in academic circles.
In 1923, his book "Indian Philosophy" was hailed as a "philosophical classic and a literary masterpiece." He was an extraordinary scholar, an eminent educationist and moreover a greatly renowned teacher. This is why his birthday (5th September) is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India.
