Sumalatha is a regional film actress in the south. She has been a significant part of Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi film industry having acted in more than 220 films. She was married to Kannada film actor/politician Ambareesh and she won against Nikhil Kumaraswamy by a margin of 1.25 lakh votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Mandya-- Ambareesh’ former constituency, as an independent candidate.
